Focus Helixway began in 2016 as evening chart sittings in a rented room above a stationery shop, two streets off Jeju-daero. Seo Siwoo had spent nine years as a dealer’s assistant at a brokerage branch on the island, marking Kospi ranges after the cash session and wishing the notes were clearer. A few people asked to sit with him: hotel night staff, a retired coast-guard officer, a clerk from a citrus cooperative. They wanted a second night for position size, because the range alone did not tell them how large to be.
By 2018 the sittings had a printed worksheet with three lines that are still on the paper: the range, the volatility distance, and the quantity. In 2021 the studio moved to the present room at 77 Jeju-daero, Jeju-si, where the wall is long enough for one full session and the table seats eight. Nam Yeri joined in 2023. She studied economics at Jeju National University and spent four years in a bank’s treasury back office before taking the Wednesday and Friday chart sittings.
The subject has stayed narrow on purpose. Technical analysis training here means volatility, range structure, and position-sizing analysis. The island setting matters: many students finish a day shift in Jeju-si or Seogwipo and can only give the evening. The pace is built for that, not for a fortnight away from work.
Seo Siwoo
Leads the Range Desk, the open evenings, and the Saturday clinic. He still marks the shared example himself before the door opens, so the first ten minutes are not spent hunting for a chart. He will stop a student who defends a drawing the open has already broken.
Nam Yeri
Takes afternoon chart sittings and walks the table on desk evenings two, four, and six. She is the one who asks whether the value per point on your sheet matches the market you printed. If it does not, the sizing line waits.
How a sitting is kept
Paper first. A laptop may sit closed in a bag; the worksheet is what gets marked. Questions are taken in turn. Personal account sizes stay off the shared board — only the practice risk amount goes on the example.
The studio’s loyalty is to the mark, not to a forecast. A range that fails is written as abandoned. A day that has already traveled past its recent average is called wide, and the quantity gets smaller. Students who want someone else to place orders are pointed back to their brokerage. The chair here is for the analysis.
Beside the avenue
Jeju-daero is ordinary in the afternoon and quiet enough at 18:30 for a class to hear a pencil. Visitors from the mainland usually land at Jeju Airport and take a taxi straight to the door. The phone is answered during studio hours: Tuesday to Friday, 13:00–21:00.
